World Pizza Day: top 3 places to enjoy it in SP close to home!
July 10th is World Pizza Day. And although the dish has Italian origins, there's nothing that better represents São Paulo's gastronomic culture than a good pizza. To give you an idea, according to the United Pizzerias Association of Brazil, the capital of São Paulo consumes an average of more than half a million pizzas a day, making it the second largest consumer of the product in the world.

But first, a little history of Pizza Day
There are many theories surrounding the real story of how Pizza Day was created, but the most traditional one is that on July 10, 1889, chef Raffael Esposito created the famous marguerita flavor for King Umberto I and his queen, Margherita, to taste during a trip to Naples. The creation contained basil, tomato sauce and cheese.
The challenge, however, was greater than you might think. In addition to making a tasty combination, the chef used ingredients that were reminiscent of the colors of the Italian flag.
From that day on, the couple loved the chef's creation so much that they decided to celebrate the same date every year by eating the pizza.
